Dodge Viper SRT10 ACR

Like any track car, one of the the core objectives is to save weight. And Dodge have done so by concentrating on three areas. The first area focused on unsprung suspension components by using StopTech cross-drilled and slotted brake rotors combined with the Michelin Pilot Sport Cup Tires and Sidewinder lightweight forged aluminum wheels. The second area of weight savings was found in the use of carbon fiber aerodynamic components such as an adjustable front splitter and rear wing which was sculpted by using CFD (Computational Fluid dynamics). Both of these areas combined are good for a weight savings of 40 pounds. The third area of savings is found in the optional “Hard Core” package which trims an additional 40 pounds of fat by deleting the audio system, fog lamps, underhood insulator padding, trunk carpet, tire inflater as well as the door speakers replaced with carbon fiber panels. The total combined weight loss is a massive 80 pounds.

SEMA Las Vegas 2007

Modelspot's man on the ground brought us some pictures of the beautiful cars and sights on display at the SEMA premier automotive speciality car show in Las Vegas, USA. It draws the industry’s brightest minds and hottest products to one place, the Las Vegas Convention Center. As part of the AAIW, the SEMA Show attracts more than 100,000 industry leaders from over 100 countries. SEMA Show 2006 drew over 50,000 domestic and international buyers through two million square feet of exhibits. The displays are segmented into 11 sections, and a New Products Showcase features more than 2,000 newly introduced parts, tools and components.

Gemballa's mad Mirage Carrera GT

Gemballa Porsche GT Gemballa have done the unspeakable and set about "enhancing" what many would consider the perfect supercar, Porsches' Carrera GT.

Working in a rarefied, parallel engineering universe where exotic materials are de rigueur and price is no question, the slightly over-the-top model delineation - Gemballa Mirage GT Black Edition - is quite understandable.

What Uwe Gemballa has done is take the perfectly capable Carrera GT, added some power, a lot of aerodynamic body kit, and some bespoke interior detailing. Whilst some see the customisation of a Carrera GT as sacrilege, the visual drama the Mirage GT Black Edition conjures up is unmatched.

AC Schnitzer M3 & M1 for Essen - Germany

AC Schnitzer to show versions of M3 and 1-Series Coupe, LPG 3-Series Coupe and new MINI at Essen. German tuning firm AC Schnitzer have released the first details of their appearance at next month's Essen Motor Show in Germany, home for 40 years to the very best in tuners, motorsport, classics and automotive accessories. And AC Schnitzer certainly steps up to the plate, delivering to Essen what the German tuner calls their 'four trump cards'.

Making its public debut at the show will be AC Schnitzer's piece de resistance - their hotly-anticipated version of the new M3 Coupe. A muscular bodykit and striking alloys are not the sole characterising features of the more athletic M3, instead extending to its further-enhanced AC Schnitzer sports chassis.

Joining the M3 will be a conceptual homage to the BMW 2002 tii of the 1970s, with AC Schnitzer applying their own interpretation of the 70s legend onto BMW's new 1-Series Coupe. Expect the re-working to show similarities with Frankfurt's BMW 1-Series Coupe tii concept, with a decidedly AC Schnitzer twist.
